PLANT HIRE — QUICKSILVA PLANTRANZ HIRE

COMPACTION EQUIPMENT

Smooth drum rollers, padfoot rollers, sit-on rollers and pneumatic rollers for road construction, sub-grade preparation and civil infrastructure across the Western Cape and Northern Cape.

WHAT IS COMPACTION EQUIPMENT?

Compaction equipment compresses soil, gravel and asphalt to the required density, ensuring structural integrity for roads, foundations and earthworks. Proper compaction is critical for road longevity, building foundations and any civil infrastructure project.

QuickSILVA PlanTranz Hire offers a complete range of compaction equipment: 12T smooth drum rollers for asphalt and granular materials; 12T padfoot rollers for cohesive soils; 2.7T sit-on rollers for smaller areas and confined spaces; and pneumatic rollers for final surface finishing.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Yes. QuickSILVA PlanTranz Hire offers both operators for both wet hire and dry hire. All our operators are fully certified and experienced across residential, commercial and infrastructure sites.

On a wet hire the hire will include fuel. Dry hire means you supply your own fuel on a hire. Wet hire is the most popular option for contractors who want a turnkey solution.

We recommend booking at least 48 hours in advance for our plant hire equipment. For larger excavators or peak periods, a week’s notice ensures availability. Emergency and shutdown work is available 24/7 — call us directly.

For road base compaction, a 12T smooth drum roller is the standard choice for granular materials. If the sub-grade is cohesive clay soil, a padfoot roller achieves better compaction. For asphalt finishing, a pneumatic roller provides the final surface seal. Our team can recommend the right combination based on your road specification and soil conditions.

A padfoot roller has raised pads (feet) on the drum that penetrate and knead cohesive soils such as clay. This achieves compaction from the bottom up, which is more effective on clay soils than a smooth drum roller. Padfoot rollers are commonly used on dam construction, earthfill embankments and road sub-grades in the Western Cape.

The number of passes depends on the material type, layer thickness and required compaction density. Typically 4–8 passes are needed for granular road base, and 6–12 passes for cohesive soils with a padfoot roller. A qualified operator will use compaction testing to verify the required density has been achieved.
